It is shown that optimal allocation of animals between and within inbred strains depends on the ratio (variation between strains): (Variation within strains), and attention has to be paid to genetic relations between strains to avoid testing within a limited genetic range.

The production of two heterozygous and one hom*ozygous clones of the Israeli Dor-70 line of common carp was tested using DNA fingerprinting (DFP) and mixed leukocyte reaction (MLR) analysis, providing evidence that the mitotic gynogenetic parents of these fish were fullyhom*ozygous.

A genetic inventory of essentially all laboratory stocks of the Mangrove Killifish held worldwide shows extensive interline differentiation as well as some intraline variation, much of which can be attributed to post-origin de novo mutations and/or to the segregation of polymorphisms from wild progenitors.

Behavior genetics
Examination of variation in behavior patterns among four clonal lines of rainbow trout derived from geographically diverse source populations with different domestication histories suggests that domestication history of the source populations had a strong influence on these behavior patterns.

Valuable information about the genetic structure of wild and captive populations and traits of interest to aquaculture are now becoming available and the authors' knowledge of these areas should increase greatly over the next decade, as should the applications of genetics to the Aquaculture of cyprinids.

The conditions for the genetic inactivation of the maternal genome in the European sea bass were explored using different combinations of UV irradiation levels and durations and revealed the presence of gadusol, a compound structurally related to mycosporine-like amino acids with known UV-screening properties.

Results provide evidence for the idea that in the carp histocompatibility genes exist at least one major locus and multiple minor loci, which are codominantly expressed.
